LEFT: In 1954, sixteen-year-old Wanda Jackson was "discovered" by country star Hank Thompson and invited to record and perform with his western swing band, the Brazos Valley Boys. LEFT CENTER: In 1955 she and Elvis travelled together on the Ozark Jubilee country music tour as opening acts for the established stars. She saw that Elvis was stealing the shows and listened when he suggested she try his type of music. CENTER: After two years of recording country songs for Decca, Wanda signed with Capitol in 1956 where she turned to rockabilly, recording "Fujiyama Mama" in '57 and "Let's Have a Party" in '58. RIGHT CENTER: In 1956 there were no role models for female rockers so Wanda simply let loose and became the Queen of Rockabilly. RIGHT: Wanda rockin' in 2004, and still touring in 2012! | ||||
